Working Fire In The First Due

 August 28, 2016

Friday Morning at 09:46 hours LCWC dispatched box 62-6 for a reported Dwelling Fire on Aberley Lane in the Devon Creek Development off New Holland Pike. Chief 62(KAUFFMAN) went en route and reported a column of smoke from several miles out. East Lampeter PD arrived and reported a garage fully involved attached to a residence with the fire catching the adjacent residence on fire. Upon arrival Chief 62 requested a 2nd Alarm assignment which brought over 10 mutual aid departments to the scene. Engine 62-2 arrived and their crew advanced two 200 ft.1″1/2 attack lines to the residence next to the main fire building and were able to contain the fire to the garage of that residence before it spread to the house. Units from 20(MTFR),61(UPPER LEACOCK),41(BIRD-IN-HAND),63(LAFAYETTE) and 29(WEST EARL) arrived and assisted with fire suppression while the remainder of the 2nd alarm units staged and were used as needed. Units from 62 and 63 remained on the scene for extensive overhaul and cleared just before 15:00 hours. We would like to thank all the mutual aid companies for the assist on a hot day.

More training done on this beautiful day. Crews worked on pumping, driving, and knowledge of our area along with 63s area. In the next few weeks as the weather gets nicer, crews will be out training and staffing the station. If you see us out and about or see the bay doors open, stop by and learn how you can become a member.

Witmer along with Bowmansville Fire Company station 33 are currently covering Lafayette Fire Company area while they enjoy their well deserved banquet night. 1 call so far for a vehicle accident was handled.

Around 2:30pm today we were dispatched for a chimney fire in box area 62-06. Upon arrival the ladder truck set up and went to the roof to inspect the inside of the chimney/drop chimney bombs. Engine 62-2 crew went inside and checked the fireplace and determined there was a good bit of debris and embers. Firefighters worked to clear the debris and extinguish what was left with an ABC extinguisher while properly ventilating the house and ensuring no damage was done to contents inside the house.

Tuesday afternoon, Witmer Fire, along with West Earl Fire, assisted the Gerald G. Huesken Middle School at their First Responder Club meeting. The crews worked with the students on how to deploy a hand line and how to pump an engine. All students in the club are receiving hands on experience in the club. We were happy to be a part of the experience and look forward to returning in a few weeks when it is time for Tanker Company operations.
